EDS Standardizes on CA's InocuLAN for Enterprise Antivirus Protection
Business Wire, July 15, 1997
CA-WORLD '97, NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1997--
Displaces Competing Products Across 100,000 Desktops And Servers Worldwide
Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that EDS has selected CA's InocuLAN virus protection for deployment across its extensive worldwide enterprise network.
In being selected by EDS as an enterprise standard, InocuLAN replaces competing products and becomes the antivirus component of EDS' Consistent Office Environment (COE). COE specifies the products and services for EDS' worldwide client/server infrastructure, providing global communications and collaboration for improved knowledge sharing, productivity, cost savings and cost management.
EDS made its decision to specify InocuLAN as the corporate COE standard after engaging an independent software testing services organization to evaluate InocuLAN and compare it directly to competing virus protection product lines. Deployment of InocuLAN is slated for EDS' 100,000 desktops and servers worldwide.
Based upon the results of this evaluation and EDS' internal requirements, InocuLAN was selected by EDS as its product of choice for enterprise-wide virus scanning and eradication. Features that led to EDS' selection of InocuLAN included:
- State-of-the-art virus detection and cure across the enterprise including desktops, servers, messaging systems and Internet downloads.
- Its ease of administration and deployment across widely dispersed enterprise environments.
- The comprehensiveness of its virus detection protection, and its ability to protect against viruses borne by Word and Office97 macros and compressed files.
"The continuous availability of computing resources is an absolute necessity for Information Age enterprises such as EDS, and the presence of viruses --whether malicious or inadvertent-- is a leading threat to that availability," said Todd Carlson, EDS Chief Information Officer. "That's why it is imperative that we continue to refine and enhance the virus-proofing of our COE architecture."
"We are extremely pleased to see InocuLAN's antivirus technology being adopted by EDS," said Sanjay Kumar, CA President and Chief Operating Officer. "EDS' decision to deploy InocuLAN certainly speaks to the quality of InocuLAN's capabilities in the enterprise arena, and to CA's commitment to deliver best-in-class solutions to world class organizations like EDS."
"InocuLAN has clearly proven itself to be the best solution for EDS, based on both the results of independent testing and our own administrative and architectural requirements," said Detlef Eurich, EDS Director of Corporate Security. "The virus threat is constantly evolving and morphing, so we have to have a dynamic strategy to defend ourselves. CA has demonstrated the ability to respond to the ever-changing nature of the computer virus phenomenon."
InocuLAN is certified by the National Computer Security Association (NCSA) to detect 100% of the world's known viruses, including over 1,000 macro viruses in real time--neutralizing them before they can affect critical computing resources. InocuLAN can detect such viruses in compressed files, as well as in files that reach servers and PCs in the form of IBM/Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange attachments or Internet downloads.
InocuLAN supports both leading desktop operating systems and networking platforms, providing complete end-to-end protection for corporate networks. It was recently selected to receive PC Week's prestigious Analyst's Choice Award. It has also received numerous other accolades from Windows NT Magazine, Network Computing, InfoWorld and other leading industry publications.
