CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 1997--Leslie's Poolmart Thursday announced preliminary sales results for the five weeks ended June 28, 1997.
The company's preliminary figures indicate that sales for the period increased 16.4 percent to $46,309,000, compared with the same five weeks of 1996. This brings sales for the second quarter to $97,877,000, an increase of 10.2 percent, and sales for the 26-week year-to-date period to $121,693,000, an increase of 13.8 percent over 1996.
Based on the preliminary sales report, comparable store sales increased 12.6 percent in the June five-week period, a performance that resulted in a second quarter increase of 6.7 percent and year-to-date increase of 9.6 percent.
"We are quite pleased with the strong sales turnaround in June," said Brian P. McDermott, president and CEO of Leslie's. "June's results have allowed us to substantially close the gap caused by our sales shortfall in April and May, putting us back on track to achieve this year's operating plan."
The company also stated that in the future, sales results will only be released quarterly in conjunction with earnings results at the close of each quarter.
Founded in 1963, Leslie's Poolmart is the country's leading specialty retailer of swimming pool supplies and related products. The company currently markets its products through 278 retail stores in 27 states and a nationwide mail-order catalog.
