MicroNet Technology Ships Advantage RAID: An Affordable, High Performance RAID 5 Solution

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 1997--MicroNet Technology, the leader in storage technology, Monday began shipping the Advantage RAID, a platform independent, self-contained, desktop, RAID 5 storage solution that connects to any computer system with a SCSI port or SCSI host adapter.

Available in a 20 GB configuration, the compact Advantage RAID, houses six hot-swap hard disk drive modules and a RISC-based, embedded RAID 5 controller.

Advantage RAID boasts a variety of features common in many higher priced systems. In addition to the built-in RAID 5 controller, the unit also contains a high-performance 32 bit RISC microprocessor, 2 MB of both static RAM and level 2 microprocessor battery backed-up cache, redundant power supplies, and a front mounted LCD panel which eliminates the need for specialized GUI software.

Drive activity is monitored independently by its own LED display, and each hot-swap drive possesses its own drive channel. The system can be configured with an on-line hot spare option with the ability to perform automatic rebuilds. The redundant, universal power supplies provide users with the assurance they need to stay on-line and operational. Advantage RAID contains security features including password protection, a warning buzzer to indicate drive failure, and tamper-proof key-locks for each drive.

Advantage RAID is targeted at the rapidly expanding market for high availability, high performance desktop storage, such as small business offices, medical facilities, graphics departments, workgroup servers and for burgeoning Internet/intranet storage market.
