adidas creates new subsidiary to market golf in the United States

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1997--adidas AG has formed adidas Golf U.S.A. Inc. to market golf footwear, apparel and accessories in the United States.
The new company, located in Portland, is a wholly owned subsidiary of adidas AG. Ric Long, a former senior adidas manager, has been named president of adidas Golf U.S.A.
"The momentum of the adidas brand in America, combined with an enthusiastic interest in the sport of golf from American youth, creates a perfect environment to introduce an adidas golf footwear and apparel collection," says Long.
Marketing strategy for the new golf collection will include a spring '98 print advertising campaign that will support the company's goal to build an adidas brand association with the sport of golf. The new spring '98 product line will be introduced at the P.G.A. International Golf Show in Las Vegas this September.
Product development will remain centralized at adidas AG in Germany.
