Intergraph Offers Free Mirroring/Failover Software On Powerful Intel/Windows NT InterServe Servers; InterSite: Expanded management tools for servers, workstations
Business Wire, June 15, 1997
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1997--Intergraph Computer Systems announced today that it is integrating Octopus Technologies' Server with Super Automatic Switch Over (SASO) mirroring and failover software with all InterServe mid-range and high-end servers at no extra charge through the end of 1997. Part of Intergraph's InterSite product line, the Octopus SASO software gives customers a complete "cluster-ready" solution for their server needs, and adds to the excellent values in Intergraph's InterSite collection of management tools and utilities for Intel/Windows NT-based servers and workstations.
The mirroring and switchover capabilities will be bundled under Intergraph's InterSite Mirroring & AutoSwitchOver (IMAS) product name. It will be offered at no charge through 1997 on the InterServe 635 and 645 mid-range servers, the InterServe 650 and 660 enterprise-class servers, and Intergraph's new InterServe 650tx and 660tx servers, which offer enterprise-class power but at a reduced price for customers who do not need extensive high-availability and expandability features.
IMAS gives users a high-availability solution based on Intergraph's powerful and affordable Intel Pentium Pro, Windows NT-based servers and Octopus Technologies' state-of-the-art, real-time data protection and failover software. Deployed on the InterServe servers in "active-active" mode, the IMAS software ensures that end users' data is always available by providing data fault tolerance and real time data protection for Windows NT-based networks. Updates to source files are mirrored to disks across LANs and WANs to user-specified targets. An up-to-date copy of mirrored files is available on the network in the event of data loss or hardware failure at the source location. IMAS also permits backup of data without any interruption of service to end-users.
"This agreement with Octopus Technologies raises the bar for the industry on price, performance and high-availability features for Intel/Windows NT-based servers," said Wade Patterson, president of Intergraph Computer Systems. "Intergraph has already set industry records and won numerous awards for its InterServe line. Now customers can benefit not just from the superb price/performance value of the InterServe line, but can also implement excellent high-availability solutions that would normally cost extra."
Dave Crocker, president of Octopus Technologies, said, "The combination of Intergraph's high-end servers and Octopus Technologies remote mirroring and automatic switch over software provide clustering functionality today, with compatibility tomorrow to Microsoft's Wolfpack products. This solution provides Intergraph's customers immediate data protection."
InterServe Server Functionality
The InterServe servers that include the IMAS software cover a wide range of computing tasks. The InterServe 635 and 645 are dual- and quad-200MHz Pentium Pro servers, respectively. Each is equipped with 100Base-T networking capability and on-board Ultra SCSI controllers, giving customers excellent built-in connectivity. RAID-equipped units come with AMI's MegaRAID PCI SCSI Disk Array Controller, the industry's leading RAID controller for high performance and availability. They are available in a deskside configuration.
The InterServe 650/660 models offer the highest performance for mission-critical environments, including enterprise-wide LAN operations, on-line transaction processing, and large-scale Internet/intranet hosting services. In addition to the features offered on the InterServe 635/645 models, the rack-mounted, richly-configured dual- or quad-200MHz Pentium Pro InterServe 650/660 systems come with a minimum of 128MB of 4-way interleaved ECC memory that's expandable up to 4GB, with hardware RAID options providing up to 1TB of storage.
The new InterServe 650tx and 660tx offer the same high performance as the InterServe 650 and 660 -- they use the same motherboard -- but do not include some of the high-availability and expansion features of the 650/660 models. The InterServe 650tx/660tx are designed for customers who want high performance at the best possible price, but do not require certain high-availability and expansion options. Available in deskside form factors that are easily converted to rack mounts, the InterServe 650tx/660tx are ideal for high-volume Web farms, Citrix Winframe implementations, Internet service providers, and large database applications.
Pricing and availability
The InterServe 635, 645, and 650/660 models are available immediately. They come standard with the IMAS (Octopus Server with SASO) software at no extra charge, and will be supported by Intergraph's customer support organization. Base configuration prices ($U.S.) for the servers are:
-- InterServe 635, $21,200 -- InterServe 645, $25,540 -- InterServe 650, $34,140 -- InterServe 660, $40,140
The InterServe 650tx/660tx will be available in August 1997. Base configuration prices ($U.S.) for the dual-processor InterServe 650tx will start at approximately $24,500. For more detailed price, configuration, and additional sales information, customers can call 800-763-0242.
