Kids fly free on Pan Am this summer

Business Wire, June 16, 1997

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1997--Kids will soar to new heights -- for free -- this summer on Pan American World Airways (ASE:PAA), the airline announced Monday.

The special offer is available for children between the ages of two and 17 traveling with an adult on the special "Kids Fly Free" promotion in the continental U.S.

The airline said that the special offer is being made available for sale until July 4 for travel from now through Aug. 30.

"What better way to spend the summer vacation than to travel and take advantage of our attractive promotion?" said Martin R. Shugrue Jr., Pan Am's president and chief executive officer. "Similar programs in the past have generated substantial incremental airline traffic and have given families the economic incentive to travel and take advantage of school and work holidays," he added.

The "Kids Fly Free" promotion requires that the child travels with the adult. There is a three day minimum stay and 30 day maximum stay required. Each adult paying the full summer promotional fare is entitled to one free accompanying child. Any number of additional children may travel with the adult at a 50 percent discount from the adult's fare.

Pan Am pointed out that seats are limited at the special summer promotional adult fare which entitles the passenger to a free child. Tickets must be purchased within 72 hours of the booking and are nonrefundable. However, under Pan Am's policy, there is no charge for a change in booking if the fare is the same or in excess of the original ticket. -0-
