WRQ's Reflection for IBM sets new 3270 functionality standard for enterprise desktops going to NT
Business Wire, June 17, 1997
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1997--Enterprises moving to NT on the desktop would be well-advised to consider WRQ's Reflection for IBM when they evaluate their host access needs.
WRQ, a leader in connectivity software for the enterprise, today released independent lab test results showing that WRQ's Reflection for IBM performs as well as or better than other products tested in many areas. The performance testing was done by The Tolly Group, a strategic consulting, independent testing, and industry analysis organization in Manasquan, New Jersey.
WRQ's Reflection for IBM (version 6.1) showed better performance in many configurations in head-to-head testing against Attachmate's EXTRA! Personal Client (version 6.2), Wall Data's RUMBA Office 95/NT (version 5.1A), and IBM's Personal Communications AS/400 and 3270 (version 4.11).
"For many customer environments, WRQ's Reflection for IBM can provide better performance than any of the other products tested," commented Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group. "Reflection delivered competitive performance in every test."
The Tolly Group tested four areas of 3270 performance that represent common, day-to-day functions of a 3270 end user. The tests included file transfer, graphics, 3270 interactive and HLLAPI performance. The results will be published in a series of reports to be issued this month by The Tolly Group (see The Tolly Group documents 7281, 7282, and 7283).
"The Tolly Group's test criteria reflect the most commonly used functions of a 3270 host connectivity product," said Stuart Lisk, senior product marketing manager for WRQ's family of IBM connectivity products. "The results demonstrate that, in effect, WRQ has a superior offering for enterprises that are moving from 16-bit to 32-bit operating systems on the desktop. We have gained the upper hand in performance by concentrating on the basics, those functions that people use every day, all day."
In The Tolly Group's tests, Reflection for IBM came in either first or second in every test. And in many instances, the difference between Reflection's performance and the competition was significant. For example, WRQ's Reflection completed a 1 MB file transfer using 2-Kbyte block sizes 1.5 to 3 minutes sooner than Attachmate's EXTRA! "If you think about an enterprise with 10,000 PCs and add up all the time that Reflection could shave off file transfers alone, you will see a true resource savings with Reflection and a noticeable difference in how a network performs," Lisk said.
Testing of each function for each product occurred over three different network transports: 802.2/DLC, Microsoft SNA Server over TCP/IP, and Novell NetWare for SAA over IPX.
The complete series of The Tolly Group reports will be available to interested IT professionals, who can request copies via either phone: 206/217-7100, 800/872-2829 or WRQ's web site: www.wrq.com .
