Business Wire, June 18, 1997
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1997--Demon Internet, Europe's biggest provider of Internet Services, today confirmed the benefits of using the latest continuously available network file servers from Network Appliance Inc. and look ahead to further technical collaboration with the leading supplier of dedicated file servers known as filers.
"Demon Internet has pioneered the development of high performance and high availability solutions for Mail, Usenet news and the Web. It is critical for our distributed systems to provide this level of service and guarantee the data integrity -- NetApp's Filers gives this with excellent price performance demanded in the Internet marketplace," said Cliff Stanford, founder and managing director of Demon Internet.
"Demon has worked closely with NetApp in the development of these services, and our two companies plan to continue in close, technical and strategic collaboration," said Stanford.
"Demon appreciates NetApp's commitment and investment to the Internet as illustrated not only by the suitability of the five NFS filers we have installed so far, but also their product direction in Web software technology," said Gerry Lawrence, Demon's operations manager. "Simplicity of administration and self-maintaining hardware means minimal human supervision. This is a major advantage."
As part of the alliance, Demon Internet will have early access to NetApp's future Internet-specific technology and will work with NetApp to give product-technology feedback.
"We look forward to a long and mutually productive relationship with Demon Internet and to deriving useful technological feedback from our collaboration," said Dan Warmenhoven, NetApp chief executive officer. "As an ISP, Demon understands the criticality of maintaining uninterrupted 24x7 operations. In effect, they're providing a utility-like service to their customers who are intolerant of downtime, especially for e-mail services. For this very reason, Demon continues to deploy NetApp's dedicated filers that deliver the industry's leading network availability."
