Metawave(TM) Communications Corp. today announced that the Federal Communications Commission has issued a grant of equipment authorization for the company's SpotLight(TM) Multibeam Antenna Platform. The authorization permits the SpotLight system to be made available for commercial use.
"Receiving FCC approval for the SpotLight system is a significant milestone for Metawave," said Dr. Douglas Reudink, Metawave president and chief technology officer. "To our knowledge, this is one of the first smart antenna systems to receive such approval, and it underscores our position as a leading provider of practical spectrum management solutions."
The SpotLight Multibeam Antenna Platform connects to existing cellular base station equipment to significantly enhance a cell site's capacity and coverage, enabling wireless carriers to minimize the cost of network growth. The system also benefits subscribers with better call quality and fewer dropped calls. In field trails conducted recently with 360 degree Communications Company, SpotLight significantly improved audio clarity, average carrier-to-interference ratio, and several other measure of service quality.
