Business Wire, June 23, 1997

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1997--

New ULTIPRO(r) for Windows(r) system will provide Year 2000

compliance and serve human resource needs of more than

135,000 Winn-Dixie employees

The Ultimate Software Group Inc., a leading developer of visionary human resource management systems (HRMS), today announced that Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WIN) has selected Ultimates ULTIPRO for Windows as its new HRMS.

ULTIPRO for Windows is the first 32-bit, object-oriented client/server HRMS for Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 and Windows NT 4.0. Winn-Dixie employs more than 135,000 persons and operates 1,181 stores in 14 states and the Bahamas.

Winn-Dixie will use ULTIPRO for Windows to replace its existing mainframe-based HRMS to manage human resources, benefits, recruitment and staffing, payroll, employee self-service via Internet/Intranet, and other important HRMS functions. Winn-Dixie's implementation of the ULTIPRO for Windows system began this month with live processing scheduled for January 1998.

"ULTIPRO for Windows will provide Winn-Dixie with greater flexibility in cross-division reporting and significant improvement in ease of use," said Scott Scherr, president, founder and CEO of Ultimate.

"Another primary reason Winn-Dixie chose this new system was its ability to provide Year 2000 compliance, thus avoiding the expensive process of re-coding and re-engineering their existing mainframe system," Scherr added.

ULTIPRO for Windows provides users with greater speed, scalability and ease-of-use than competing software at its price point.

"In the HRMS market, Ultimate Software is using object technology to differentiate the ULTIPRO product for Windows on SQL Server(tm) 6.5. The performance provided by SQL Server is perfectly suited for payroll calculations, historical reporting, and other HR transaction processing," said Holly Henson, industry marketing manager for enterprise accounting and ERP at Microsoft. "We are excited to see customers like Winn-Dixie choosing ULTIPRO running on Microsoft BackOffice(tm) to replace their mainframe based HRMS applications."

Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. is one of the nation's largest supermarket retailers with 1,181 stores in 14 states and the Bahamas.
