Wired News expands coverage, unveils site redesign; partnership with InvestorsEdge gives Wired News financial market information
Business Wire, June 24, 1997
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1997--Wired News (www.wired.com), the daily online news service produced by the Wired Digital division of Wired Ventures Inc., has undergone a major redesign including expansion into coverage of general news and delivery of financial market information from InvestorsEdge (www.InvestorsEdge.com), a unit of Neural Applications Corporation.
This free service now combines the most authoritative original reporting on the digital world with constantly updated coverage of current events and the financial markets.
"Now you can track what's happening in Silicon Valley, Capitol Hill, Wall Street, and the Web -- all at a single URL," said David Weir, vice president of content for Wired Digital. "I can't think of any area where timely information is more valuable than in finance, and Wired News is taking full advantage of Web technology to deliver market data that allows readers to effectively monitor their investments."
Partnership with InvestorsEdge
The financial content of Wired News is the result of a partnership with InvestorsEdge, a leading provider of online investment data and analysis tools. At no cost to users, the Wired News financial section supplies price quotes and market indices as well as charting and portfolio-management tools.
"We are thrilled to partner with such a premier Internet media player," said Michael Bloom, vice president of business development at InvestorsEdge. "The financial environment we developed for Wired News offers users the ability to employ professional-caliber quantitative and charting tools to analyze portfolios and individual investments, and obtain customized, financial market information any time of the day."
Wired News Enhancements
The redesign of the Wired News Web site makes it easier to read and navigate, presenting a clearer and more integrated interface. Along with the addition of breaking world news and stock market data, Wired News has also added a week-in-review section: "The Past 7 Days."
In its first six months, Wired News has established itself as a leading source of journalism about the digital world, having broken a number of scoops including reports on the Internet activities of the "Heaven's Gate" cult, a major hacking incident that plagued a Silicon Valley game manufacturer and the news that poet Allen Ginsberg was dying of liver cancer.
Wired News is produced around the clock by a dedicated staff of journalists, commentators and designers located in San Francisco, New York and other news centers. The executive editor is Kevin Kelleher who has been with Wired Ventures since 1996 and previously reported for the San Francisco Business Times and Bloomberg Business News.
Wired News continues to offer insightful commentary from four of the leading participants in the digital revolution: Chip Bayers, Steve Silberman, John Alderman and Mike Frauenfelder.
Wired News Distribution
Wired News is distributed across multiple platforms and media venues. The service is available on the Web, through Netscape In-box Direct, and via the PointCast Network. Wired News also partners with Reuters America Inc. to produce Reuters/Wired Digital News Service, a specialized news service providing coverage of the people, companies, technologies, and culture of the digital age. The service, which is marketed to newspapers and Internet publishers worldwide, includes stories produced exclusively by the staff of Wired News for the joint service, combined with material from Wired magazine, HotWired and other Web sites maintained by Wired Ventures Inc.
