OMRON announces MailJail; Spam filtering tool for Eudora
Business Wire, June 25, 1997
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1997--Omron Advanced Systems, Inc. (OAS) today announced the availability of MailJail for Eudora -- an intelligent and flexible rules-based email filtering tool designed to identify and sort unsolicited commercial email (UCE) or "spam" email messages.
OAS recognizes the problems associated with receiving junk email and spending time sorting through cluttered email boxes. While the issues of bulk email standards and regulatory relief are debated, MailJail offers a personal solution for Eudora users to censor and prioritize their incoming email.
MailJail easily installs as a plug-in module for Eudora Pro and Eudora Light 3.0.3 or later for Windows 95/NT. MailJail has multiple ways of determining junk and non-junk:
-- Address Book Matching -- making friends exempt from MailJail rules,
-- Header and Keyword Filtering -- similar to Eudora filtering with the action to flag and filter offending messages as Junk,
-- Full Content Filtering -- analyzes the body of all incoming messages and uses built-in and "learned" rules to judge and capture messages.
"MailJail makes a judgment about the content of incoming messages and filters according to the junk and non-junk rules in the MailJail knowledge base. This is a powerful compliment to the excellent filtering capability of Eudora," said Rob Moore, Marketing Manager of OAS.
Proprietary to MailJail is over 250 built-in junk rules, generated by OAS, and the ability to create rules using the "Send to MailJail" and "Release from MailJail" features. MailJail uses fuzzy technology to automatically generate rules, rebuild the rules index, and apply weighted relevance to each rule a user creates. According to Moore, "The more you teach MailJail by using your own email, the more accurate it becomes in understanding your preferences regarding junk and non-junk messages."
A free 30-day trial version is currently available for download. MailJail will be available for purchase online soon. Currently, OAS is developing MailJail for MS Outlook. See http://www.mailjail.com for details.
OAS is a wholly owned subsidiary of OMRON Corporation of Japan. OAS filtering products include FlexFilter, Jaffeine and MailJail. For more information please visit http://www.oas.omron.com . -0-
