Gap, Inc. names Coca-Cola Marketing Executive Zyman to company's Board of Directors

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 1997--Gap, Inc. Chairman and Founder Donald Fisher today announced that Sergio Zyman, Chief Marketing Officer of The Coca-Cola Company, has been elected to join the company's Board of Directors.
At The Coca-Cola Company, Zyman, 51, leads the multi-billion dollar worldwide marketing activities for beverages that people in nearly 200 counties consume at a rate of more than a billion servings each day.
"Mr. Zyman's creativity and experience positioning and selling the most admired and popular brands in the world adds a very valuable dimension to our company's Board," said Millard Drexler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gap, Inc. Zyman joined The Coca-Cola Company as executive assistant to the president in 1979. He was named Senior Vice President - Marketing, Coca-Cola USA in 1983. In 1986, he left The Coca-Cola Company to create his own company, returning in 1993 as Chief Marketing Officer. He has since taken the global marketing function from the traditional advertising and promotional approach to more comprehensive marketing, resulting in unprecedented volume and earnings for the Coca-Cola system.
With the addition of Zyman, Gap, Inc.'s Board of Directors consists of four employee directors and eight non-employee directors.
Gap, Inc. operated 1,933 stores in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany and Japan at the end of May.
