LivePix demonstrates version of its consumer PC photography software enhanced with Intel MMX technology; First Software to use Live Picture's MMX-Optimized FlashPix SDK

Business Wire, June 3, 1997

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--The LivePix Company today demonstrated a version of its LivePix software (already the fastest PC based consumer imaging application) enhanced with Intel MMX technology. The new version of the software will be available in the fall and is expected to dramatically speed up input/output (I/O) operations.

Intel recently worked with LivePix to optimize the software with MMX technology. In addition, LivePix is the first software implemented with the Intel MMX-optimized FlashPix SDK from Live Picture, Inc.

"Last year FlashPix technology, which is at the core of LivePix, allowed us to create a new generation of consumer imaging applications - applications that manipulate large high resolution images in real time," said Nicolas Van den Berghe, president and CEO, The LivePix Company. "This year, MMX technology will allow us to give the same kinds of performance increases to other functions of our products such as file compression, format conversions and print rendering."

"MMX technology was designed to advance dramatic improvements in the performance and quality of multimedia images, video and sound. Combining MMX technology with FlashPix enables users to quickly and easily manipulate images," said Ron J. Smith, vice president and general manager, Computing Enhancement Group (CEG), Intel Corporation.

LivePix software is the first of a new generation of high-performance consumer imaging applications for home PCs. It is an easy-to-use, powerful software package that lets people produce a broad range of creative and useful photo-based home projects, including cards, calendars, posters, T-shirts and photo albums. LivePix software includes hundreds of photo images, a template collection and a large number of special effects tools, such as red-eye removal and photo distortion.

LivePix makes working with photos faster and more intuitive, without the common sacrifices in quality and system performance that users have had to make with other imaging applications. Users no longer need to worry about converting file formats and managing image compatibility problems because LivePix software is fully compatible with other existing image file formats, such as JPEG and TIFF.

System Requirements and Availability

LivePix software is currently available for Windows 95 and will be available in MMX technology and Macintosh versions in the fall. A minimum of 8MB of RAM is needed, although 16MB is recommended for optimal performance. A minimum of 40MB free hard disk space and a CD ROM drive are also required. The software is available for $49 in retail stores and is bundled with photo printers from Lexmark and Epson. LivePix is also bundled with digital cameras from Panasonic and Vivitar as well as Aptiva PCs from IBM.

The LivePix Company, located in San Francisco, develops and markets consumer PC photography software. LivePix, the company's first product, enables the home user to store, enhance, manipulate and print all their digital images -- whether downloaded from the Internet, imported using a scanner, taken with a digital camera or extracted from a photo CD. The LivePix software is based on FlashPix technology, which reduces editing time for large files from hours to seconds. The LivePix Company is the consumer arm of Live Picture, Inc.
