ADIC Provides Upward Migration Path for Network Storage; New Upgradable Single-Tape Subsystem Provides Storage Systems Room to Grow

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1997--ADIC (NASDAQ:ADIC), a leading data storage supplier for client/server networks, today announced a new upgradable single-tape subsystem designed to protect an organization's investment in critical network backup hardware.

The ADIC DS9400D/L single-tape subsystem is based on one Quantum high-capacity DLT4000 drive. As a user's data storage needs grow, the drive can be installed into one of ADIC's DLT library products at a lower price than the cost of buying a new library.

"Due to the proliferation of critical data on the network, one of the most important issues users face with client/server backup storage systems is scalability," said Bill Britts, vice president of marketing for ADIC. The ADIC DS9400D/L provides additional data protection that is not normally found on a single-drive subsystem through an integrated LCD readout that provides easy-to-understand drive and media status, such as how much space is left on the tape, when the drive is reading or writing or when it is safe to operate the drive door release handle. For critical messages, as when the drive needs cleaning, the message flashes and sounds an audible alarm.

The DS9400D/L's DLT4000 drive technology delivers three to four times the capacity of older 4mm and 8mm technologies, with sustained throughput of up to 180MB/minute and storage capacity of up to 40GB per cartridge (with 2:1 compression). The system is supported by all leading backup and archive applications software for Microsoft Windows NT(R), Novell NetWare(R) and a variety of UNIX platforms. An optional rack mount kit holds one or two DS9400D/L units in a standard 19-inch rack.

The drive from the DS9400D/L can be installed into either ADIC's VLS DLT400 library with seven cartridges and 280GB capacity, or into one of the ADIC Scalar DLT libraries with up to 48 cartridges and three terabytes (TB) of storage.
