Metrowerks Releases New Development Tools for Motorola's PowerPC Embedded Microprocessors
Business Wire, March 10, 1997
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1997--Metrowerks Inc. (NASDAQ:MTWKF)(TSE/ME:MWK) one of the world's leading providers of software development tools, today announced CodeWarrior(R) for PowerPC(TM) Embedded Systems, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) supporting Motorola's(R) MPC 8xx PowerPC family of embedded processors.
Motorola and Metrowerks will be showing the new tools at the Embedded Systems Conference East in Boston, MA from March 10-12, in the Motorola booth, No. 304.
Hosted on Windows NT 4.0, Windows(R) 95 and Mac(R) OS, CodeWarrior for PowerPC Embedded Systems allows programmers to build applications for a variety of portable electronic devices using the Motorola MPC 8xx series of microprocessors. The CodeWarrior IDE offers a powerful suite of programming tools including an integrated project manager, text editor, optimizing C compiler, linker, source/assembly-level debugger and online references.
CodeWarrior for PowerPC Embedded Systems works with Motorola's 821/860 ADS development board, providing users with interactive testing support. Debugging can be implemented using either a Background Debug Mode (BDM) cable, or Metrowerks' target resident kernel technology. The target resident kernel is a software debugger monitor for use with MW Debug, a source-level host debugger with a graphical user interface.
"CodeWarrior provides PowerPC customers with a powerful set of development tools for the 8xx family," said Ken Edwards, marketing manager, Portable Systems Operation at Motorola. "Together we offer the embedded marketplace a complete solution for developing next-generation applications."
"We are proud to introduce CodeWarrior for PowerPC Embedded Systems," said Jean Belanger, chairman and chief executive officer of Metrowerks. "Broadening our product offering to include tools for Motorola's MPC 8xx series of embedded processors not only provides embedded PowerPC developers with a new low-cost, high-performance development solution, but underscores our commitment to becoming a key tools provider in the embedded systems space."
