Intergraph announces record GIS revenues for 1996; driving GIS industry toward Windows NT

Business Wire, March 10, 1997

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1997--During 1996, Intergraph's GIS software revenues grew a notable 19 percent over 1995 revenues.

Intergraph reported today that sales for 1996 were $180 million, a $29 million increase over the previous year. Intergraph also reported that total systems revenue, including hardware, software, and services, reached $572 million, an increase of $94 million over the previous year.

In addition, Intergraph appears to be dominating the market in sales of GIS software for Windows NT(R). Market research firm Dataquest stated in a report last October that, "GIS has traditionally been dominated by UNIX, with a growing PC base in desktop mapping. Now the market appears to be changing -- driven, of course, by Intergraph's move to Windows NT." Sharon Tan, a senior industry analyst at Dataquest, said, "Intergraph is clearly leading the NT-based GIS market, holding over 80 percent of that market for 1996."

The revenue report reflects sales of Intergraph's flagship products, MGE (Modular GIS Environment) and FRAMME(TM) (Facilities Rulebased Application Model Management Environment), indicating their wide acceptance, especially on Microsoft's Windows NT platform. Intergraph anticipates continued strong growth in 1997 with the introduction of several products, including the revolutionary new GeoMedia(R) and GeoMedia Web Map(TM).
