Intergraph announces new release of Map Publisher; leading map publishing software makes debut on "Wintel"
Business Wire, March 10, 1997
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1997--Intergraph today announced the first shipments of its Map Publisher software for Microsoft Windows NT(R) and Windows(R) 95.
Formerly available only on UNIX, this release of Intergraph Map Publisher completes the transition of Intergraph's electronic map publishing suite to the Windows/Intel platform.
With the availability of Intergraph Map Publisher on the popular Windows platform, it is expected that a new range of small and medium sized publishers can gain access to the same high-quality output. The Windows version of the product offers several new features while maintaining full compatibility and interoperability with existing UNIX systems.
Intergraph is the leading provider of systems worldwide for the production of high-quality maps. Its UNIX map publishing systems are used by hundreds of national and local government mapping agencies, including about half of the U.S. state departments of transportation, and by many other world-class map publishers.
According to Jon Thies, Intergraph's Cartographic Applications Consultant, "Users who are trained in traditional cartographic techniques relate very well to the new Windows-standard user interface. We find that many new user sites publish their first maps within four to six weeks after installing the system and receiving training."
Intergraph Map Publisher is the core product of a publication-quality, cartographic output system. It is an efficient processing environment for large-format, high-resolution raster image files. Vector feature data is converted to high-resolution raster data through an offline driver and layered with other raster image data to create final composites for offset printing. Other features include project management, prepress control, quality assurance, cartographic rendering, automation of repetitive tasks, color image mapping, and several plotting options new to various imagesetters.
