LanMinds Announces "Eminent Domain" To Automate Internet Domain Name Administration; ISP's First Product Uses Oracle Network Computing Architecture Platform to Support Enhanced Domain Name Services
Business Wire, March 14, 1997
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 1997--LanMinds, Inc. today announced the development of a new tool, code named "Eminent Domain," designed to automate the process of registering and maintaining domain names on intranets and the Internet.
Scheduled to be available sometime this summer, Eminent Domain uses Oracle's Network Computing Architecture platform to support the management of Internet Top-Level Domain names (TLDs). The product is geared toward the burgeoning market in TLDs created by the recent Enhanced Domain Name Service (eDNS) Charter -- a new project intended to resolve the problems surrounding current Top-Level Domain (TLD) ownership, control and certification by creating a more open market in TLD registration.
Eminent Domain uses Oracle Universal Server and Oracle Web Application Server to offer registration services, administration functions and interfaces to domain name servers. Using the built-in capabilities of Oracle Web Application Server, Eminent Domain generates dynamic web pages to support database interaction and uses Web Application Server cartridges to interface the database to custom domain name services.
Through Eminent Domain, ISPs and other Internet service companies that manage their own domain servers, whether or not they are top level domain servers, will be able to automate the administration of DNS including end-user billing and other custom services.
"Eminent Domain offers Internet service providers (ISP) of any size the opportunity to provide a high-performance and open-systems based technology to support foolproof domain name registration and administration," said Gary Morrell, president of LanMinds, Inc.
"There is a huge demand for services like LanMinds .fam TLD, and we plan to leverage the scalability and high-performance that Oracle has to offer. The features of Oracle's NCA are precisely what we need for our web-based TLD registration and administration solution," added Morrell.
"Eminent Domain is a powerful, integrated server to support domain name registration that will facilitate new, important places in cyberspace," said Mark Jarvis, vice president of server marketing for Oracle Corporation.
"By using cartridges to interface with high-performance domain name services, LanMinds is leveraging the Network Computing Architecture platform, Oracle Universal Server and Oracle Web Application Server to quickly deploy this innovative solution," added Jarvis.
