Intergraph Launches Enhanced Windows NT-Based Servers With Superior Networking, Storage, and High-availability Features
Business Wire, March 17, 1997
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--
Ideal Windows NT/Intel servers for wide range of tasks
Intergraph Computer Systems today announced powerful new enhancements to its award-winning InterServe 6XX line of Windows NT/Intel Pentium Pro-based servers. The new InterServe family builds on the outstanding price/performance of the 6XX line with new networking, storage, and fault-resilient features that make them ideal for small- and mid-size business networks, workgroups and departments in large government agencies and corporations, and for Web and intranet services.
The InterServe line -- including the InterServe 615, 625, 635, and 645 -- comes in a wide range of configurations, from single- and dual-processor Pentium Pro units that can be upgraded to four processors, to quad-Pentium Pro InterServe machines that tap into the power of multiple 200Mhz Intel processors. All are designed from inception to exploit the advantages of the easy-to-use, open architecture of Microsoft Windows NT.
The enhanced InterServe servers are available with mirroring and AutoSwitchOver capabilities, ensuring reliability and security for the most critical data and allowing businesses to set up clusters of high-performance, fault-resilient servers at a very cost-effective price. These capabilities are based on Octopus Technologies' mirroring and ASO (Automatic Switch Over) software for Windows NT Server. The mirroring software provides data fault tolerance and real time data protection for Windows NT-based networks. The ASO automatically switches over a failed primary server to another active server, effectively providing continuous service to clients with minimal impact on productivity.
Additionally, each new InterServe model is equipped with 100Base-T networking capability and on-board Ultra SCSI controllers for non-RAID units, giving customers excellent built-in connectivity. RAID-equipped units come with the AMI MegaRAID PCI SCSI Disk Array Controller, the industry's leading RAID controller for high performance and availability. "Intergraph continues to raise the standard by which competitors are measured for servers equipped with Intel Pentium Pro processors and running on Windows NT," said Wade Patterson, president of Intergraph Computer Systems. "The enhanced InterServe line is fully scalable, so customers know they can grow their businesses and still stay within the same family of high-quality, high-performance computing products. Customers get superior value for every dollar spent, and are supported by a world-class service and support organization." The enhanced products include:
-- The InterServe 305 and InterServe 605, which are dual-Pentium
Pro workgroup servers.
-- The InterServe 615 and InterServe 625, single- and
dual-Pentium Pro machines, respectively. They are the
industry's best price/performance database servers, are available
in either rack mount or deskside configurations, and are
both upgradeable to support up to four CPU's per system.
-- The InterServe 635 and InterServe 645, dual- and quad-Pentium
Pro servers, respectively. They add numerous high availability
options to provide the most cost-effective mission-critical
servers on the market. These servers, along with the
InterServe 650/660 models, provide complete remote management
and alerting capabilities via the InterSite server monitoring
subsystem.
Customers also can expand their storage options with Intergraph's InterStor storage products, and find seamless connectivity solutions with the InterCon-X products, each of which is built leading networking vendors and fully supported by Intergraph.
The InterServe 625 and 615 models recently set new industry records with Microsoft SQL Server on the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC-C) Benchmark, which measures the speed and cost of servers used for databases and on-line transactions. The InterServe 625 set a new price/performance record of $63.34/tpmC at a rate of 3,969 tpmC (transactions per minute). The InterServe 615 achieved a rating of $66.41/tpmC (transactions per minute) at a rate of 2,300.03 tpmC, setting a new price performance/record for uniprocessor servers.
Any model of the enhanced line can be used in conjunction with the InterServe 650/660 models, quad-Pentium Pro servers designed for the most demanding mission-critical enterprise computing.
