Nokia supplies DCS 1800 cellular network to China

HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--Nokia and Shanghai Post and Telecommunications Administration have signed an agreement for the supply of a DCS 1800 cellular network and wireless data solution. Deliveries will commence in April and are valued at close to USD 20 million.
Nokia's DCS 1800 cellular network delivery to China includes a Nokia DX 200 mobile switching center providing potential capacity up to 150.000 subscribers, a home location register, compact base stations and base station controllers as well as a full-scale network management system. Moreover, the Nokia Artus Data Communications Server (DaCS) will enable mobile subscribers of the Shanghai Post and Telecommunications' DCS network to rapidly access for example corporate data networks or Internet.

Shanghai Post and Telecommunications Administration will concentrate initially in creating coverage and capacity in the densely populated region of Shanghai with 13 million residents. Moreover, it plans to implement high value cellular data services for business users.
