Kevin Fong joins NetWorld+Interop Industry Advisory Board

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--Mayfield Fund, a private venture capital partnership, announced today that General Partner Kevin A. Fong has been selected as a member of the NetWorld Interop Industry Advisory Board.
Members of the NetWorld Interop Industry Advisory Board represent companies that are shaping the networking and internet field as it evolves through the ongoing technology revolution. The board oversees the strategy for the NetWorld Interop trade show.
NetWorld Interop is the United States' premier networking conference and exhibition. It serves as an interactive forum for network and internet professionals and provides both educational resources and advance information about new networking products, solutions and services.
Mayfield Fund is a private venture capital partnership based in Menlo Park, California. The firm has invested in more than 240 companies that today represent a total market value of over $55 billion. Mayfield's portfolio of companies include: Alantec Corporation, Amgen, Compaq Computer Corporation, CytoTherapeutics, Inc., Genentech, Inc., InControl, Inc., Legato Systems, Inc., Linear Technologies Corporation, Quantum Corporation, Silicon Graphics, Inc., 3COM Corporation and Vivus, Inc.
Fong joined Mayfield fund in 1988 and has been a General Partner since 1990. He has been involved in the formation of, or early investment in, more than 20 successful high technology businesses in the semiconductor, software, and communications sectors. Some of these companies include Crescendo Communications, acquired by Cisco and now called the Cisco WorkGroup Business Unit: Alantec Corporation: OnStream Communications; Centrum Communications; Primary Access Corporation; Centillion Networks and Legato Systems.
Fong is currently on the board of twelve high technology companies -- two pubic and ten early stage. He also serves on the board of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists, and is a columnist for Network World.
Prior to joining Mayfield, Fong was Director of Marketing for five years with DAVID Systems, a venture-backed company. He has also been a product manager with the Information Networks Division of Hewlett-Packard and a member of the scientific staff at Bell Northern Research, where he designed business communications systems. Fong has also worked as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, and in marketing at Plantronics.
Fong earned a MSEE in 1979, a MBA in 1982, both from Stanford University. He received his BSEE degree in 1976 from the University of California, Berkeley.
