Corel Opens Online Shopping Centre
Business Wire, March 18, 1997
OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1997--Corel Corporation (TSE:COS, NASDAQ:COSFF) today unveiled Corel Galleria(TM) -- a convenient online shopping centre accessible directly from Corel's home page (www.corel.com). At Galleria, shoppers can browse through a number of stores offering high quality photos (over 71,000 photo images), books and CD Home titles. Eventually the range of stores will expand to include screen savers, clipart packs, Corel merchandise, training videos and product documentation.
A continuation of the successful Corel Web Mall, Galleria allows on-line shoppers to make payments by Visa(R), MasterCard(R) and American Express(R) cards. Credit card information is entered via a secure session utilizing industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol.
"Internet commerce has become a rapidly expanding shopping alternative and we are responding to this with Corel Galleria as a continuation of the successful Web.Mall pilot," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "Corel Club offers easy access to our product line and the opportunity to participate in special promotions targeted specifically for our club members."
One of the greatest benefits of Corel Galleria is its convenience to shoppers -- it will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week enabling shoppers to place orders at their leisure. Once the customer order has been accepted, it will take approximately 10 business days to deliver the product to them, unless they have purchased an item that is available to download.
Upon enrollment, customers receive a secure password and a free membership. With their membership, clients become participants in Corel Club and are entitled to participate in special contests and promotions from time to time. Users already registered with an account through Corel WEB.MALL will automatically have their account number transformed into a membership number. As a special promotion until March 31st, all Corel Club members will receive a complimentary photo with every purchase of photos from Corel Club.
Currently, Corel Galleria page provides direct links to Corel Photo Studio, CD Home Collection, Internet Store (Netscape(TM) download site). Corel Freebies and Corel Bookstore. Currently the distribution of Corel CD-Home titles from Corel Galleria is limited to only North American customers.
