"By leveraging the scalability and availability of our Intel based EnVista servers and high-performance LVS 4500 Storage Subsystems, customers now have a powerful platform on which to deploy their SAP R/3 business-critical applications. Amdahl brings over 25 years of legacy system expertise, and stands ready with over 6,000 consulting and integration experts," said Greg Grodhaus, vice president and general manager of the Amdahl Server Business Group.
Amdahl is the only company able to offer SAP R/3 deployment capabilities in Windows NT, MVS(R) and Solaris(TM) environments. Amdahl provides end-to-end deployment capabilities that include platforms, storage, software, networks, and services, and has successfully deployed SAP R/3 in some of the world's largest companies.
"We are pleased to add Amdahl to the list of companies certified for SAP R/3. Amdahl is clearly positioning Windows NT for enterprise-wide deployment of the SAP R/3 solution," states Dr. H. Meyer, Director for iXOS Software, the exclusive SAP certification agent for the Windows NT operating system.
Amdahl views the Windows NT operating system as strategic to its enterprise customers, and according to David Vaskevitch, vice president of Microsoft Corporation's database and middleware division, "Amdahl brings many years of data center knowledge in high availability, connectivity and scalability to Microsoft Windows NT servers. Enterprise customers can now enjoy the value of Amdahl's business critical capabilities combined with the ease of use, scalability and robustness of Microsoft SQL Server and the Windows NT platform."
To implement successful project deployment, Amdahl also announced its own SAP R/3 Competency Centers in Frankfurt, Germany and Sunnyvale, Calif., which provide SAP R/3 configuration assessment, sizing, and tuning consulting services. Amdahl offers pre- and post-installation sales support for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms.
SAP AG estimates its current market growth rate to be 40 percent per year. As a result, there is an increasing demand for deployment services as corporations re-engineer their business processes. SAP AG further estimates that over 25 percent of SAP R/3 installations in 1997 will be deployed on Windows NT based servers.
"We're happy to see that Amdahl's Pentium Pro processor-based EnVista server is now certified for SAP R/3," said Krista Switzer, director of Intel's Enterprise Server Group. "According to SAP, Intel architecture-based servers, combined with Microsoft Windows NT, continue to be the fastest growing platform for SAP R/3. This strong market acceptance indicates that this powerful combination will continue to deliver highly scalable, cost-effective solutions to SAP R/3 customers."
