Trend Micro Brings Enterprise-Strength Management Tools To File Server Virus Protection

ServerProtect for Nt offers first complete remote management
Trend Micro Incorporated, a leader in server-based virus protection, today announced the release of ServerProtect 4.0 for Windows NT, a new generation of virus protection software for file servers that incorporates the most complete set of remote management tools of any NT anti-virus product on the market.
ServerProtect's powerful remote management capabilities allows a system administrator to install its virus protection software from a single console onto hundreds of other servers, even those miles away. After installation, the administrator can also manage the remote servers from the same location, changing passwords, scheduling scans, updating the software, and even responding to each incident of virus infection with a specific solution. Competing products often require administrators to physically install and manage software at each server or allow only limited remote features.
"Poor manageability of virus protection has been the greatest obstacle to its use in large corporations, where an organization can hundreds of servers at multiple sites," said Eva Chen, Trend Micro's chief technology officer. "ServerProtect's ability to manage multiple domains eliminates the tradeoff between protection and 'sneakernet' costs - the cost of MIS professionals walking around updating software."
ServerProtect for Windows NT also introduces Cascade Update, a system through which virus pattern files, which must be constantly updated for fuller protection, can be automatically distributed through file transfers among all the servers within a domain. Cascade can also generate a single integrated report based on virus activity at hundreds of dispersed servers.
ServerProtect is also available for Novell NetWare environments. Trend Micro, rated by the Gartner Group as one of the top three virus protection vendors in the world, licensed its server-based anti-virus technology exclusively to Intel Corporation until recently.
"ServerProtect for NT is another step in Trend Micro's commitment to improving manageability, interoperability, and cross-platform integration," said Chen. "Our goal is to make it possible for system administrators to manage multiple layers of virus protection, from the Internet gateway to the desktop, running on UNIX, NetWare, Windows NT, 95 3.x and DOS, from a single console."
