ORBiT offers RoadRunner customers a competitive upgrade
Business Wire, May 12, 1997
POINT RICHMOND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1997--ORBiT Group International has come to the rescue of RoadRunner customers using the MPE/iX operating system.
For a limited time, ORBiT is offering to upgrade RoadRunner users to advanced versions of ORBiT's BACKUP /iX for MPE, or BACKUP/9000 for UNIX (RoadRunner is a product of Unison -- NASDAQ:UNSN).
"We are committed to the MPE market and continue to enhance BACKUP ," said Guy Smith, marketing manager for ORBiT. "Unison's commitment to MPE appears uncertain. We want RoadRunner customers to benefit from our advances and move up to a superior backup technology."
The competitive upgrade allows users to upgrade from RoadRunner -- with or without the Pro Module -- to BACKUP /iX with ORBiT's Zero Down Time (ZDT) option. RoadRunner customers licensing the Unison Online Module can upgrade to ORBiT's BACKUP /iX with both ZDT and their exciting new Delta technology.
"MPE customers are adding disk space at an unbelievable rate. They need a true online backup solution, and we are making it available to them," Smith said.
ORBiT's ZDT options provide complete online backup. It does not require bringing users or applications down at any point before, during or after the backup.
"Zero Down Time is becoming a requirement with MPE system supporting around the clock applications, such as Internet based online ordering and customer support."
Users with large databases will benefit from ORBiT's Delta technology and DLT support. Delta allows users to backup just the changed data within a file and not the entire file.
"Our analysis shows that on average, less than 5% of a database changes on any day. The rate is even less for data warehouses and DSS databases. By backing up only the 5% that changes, we save 95% of the time and tape spent on backups," said Smith.
ORBiT's exclusive support for DLT drives helps speed backups further by providing the best throughput of any product on the market. The combined speed and reliability of DLT drives is critical for MPE systems with high user counts and large databases.
ORBiT is also offering to upgrade Unison Tapes Plus licenses to ORBiT's Tape Manager and Librarian (TML) with RoadRunner upgrades.
"We want to help RoadRunner customers. Their data is valuable, so they should have the best data management tools and the best in technical support. That means BACKUP and ORBiT."
