Allaire Integrates Internet Payment Service Technology with Cold Fusion; Support for CyberCash Extends Web Commerce Capabilities

Business Wire, May 12, 1997

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1997--Allaire Corp., a leading Internet software firm, today announced a new component for Cold Fusion that extends the popular Web application development tool with support for online payment processing. Using CyberCash's secure payment processing technology, Cold Fusion now allows Web developers to easily build sophisticated Web applications that include secure credit card validation and transaction processing. The Cold Fusion/CyberCash component is now available for download.

Cold Fusion provides developers with an easy to use environment to create Web applications that incorporate key server-side technologies such as relational databases and e-mail servers. Through the integration with CyberCash's proven payment processing solution, Cold Fusion will enable developers to plug credit card transactions into their Web sites or create custom commercial sites without having to write CGI or Perl script. Now, developers can use a server-side tag in the Cold Fusion Markup Language (CFML) to easily embed the functionality into their dynamic Web pages.

CyberCash, Inc (Nasdaq: CYCH) is a leading provider of secure Internet payment processing services and the CyberCash merchant application, called the CyberCash Cash Register, is a secure server technology that allows merchants to conduct real-time online payment processing.

"Cold Fusion's support for CyberCash is part of our commitment to partner with best of breed server technologies," said Jeremy Allaire, director of technology strategy at Allaire Corp. "We believe that commerce applications are a key element of the Web platform, and the Cold Fusion/CyberCash component further enables developers to utilize and leverage that platform."

"Allaire's development tools provide Web developers with the capability to build dynamic storefronts and Web applications around existing electronic commerce solutions," said Teresa Crummett, director, corporate marketing at CyberCash. "By integrating with key server technologies, such as CyberCash, Cold Fusion is enhancing the functionality of Websites and improving the interaction between merchants and their customers."

Developers Create Custom Commerce Solutions

The Cold Fusion/CyberCash integration will allow developers working on Internet, Intranet, and Extranet applications to build on-line ordering systems and storefronts, internal applications for credit card processing, or subscription information services. ISPs and Web Presence Providers will also be able to take advantage of the solution for a new generation of Web based systems that can be rapidly built using Cold Fusion. The simplicity of incorporating payment processing will make it possible for these vendors to offer customized commerce solutions with short development times for customers.

At R.R. Donnelley Financial, developers are leveraging the enhanced solution to support their municipal financial services site, municipal.com. As an SEC Nationally Recognized Municipal Securities Information Repository (NRMSIR), Donnelley maintains a library of over 50,000 documents including official statements, annual financial information and notices of material events for use by bond traders, financial service companies, and municipal governments. Donnelley's key challenge with the site is to create an environment where users can subscribe for a period of time or download a particular document for a fee.

"Most commerce solutions come with pre-set templates that were too restrictive for us. By using the Cold Fusion/CyberCash solution, we have the flexibility to develop the site specific to our needs, while still taking advantage of Cold Fusion's rapid development capabilities," said Marianne Cormier, senior systems analyst at Donnelley. "With Cold Fusion, we'll be able to charge per document by the end of the month, instead of by the end of the summer."

Pricing and Availability

The Cold Fusion/CyberCash component is immediately available to all Cold Fusion customers and evaluators from Allaire's Web Site (www.allaire.com). Product information, a free 30-day evaluation version, a list of sites using Cold Fusion, and a wide array of developer resources can also be found at the Allaire Web site. CyberCash's CashRegister software provides merchants with an automated Point Of Sale (POS) system for the Internet including key "back-office" functions to manage transactions. In addition to accounting, balancing and inventory management, the CashRegister software integrates seamlessly with established secured links to existing electronic payment infrastructures of banks and payment processors. Transactions are secured using the most powerful commercially available encryption. CyberCash CashRegister is available for free and can be downloaded from both CyberCash's (www.cybercash.com) and Allaire's websites.
