Gemini Alert: Identical twins can enjoy 2-for-1 cruise fare; Princess Cruises celebrates "Twinship" with launch of new Dawn Princess

Business Wire, May 13, 1997

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1997--Princess Cruises is offering identical twins a chance to book a 1997/1998 Caribbean sailing at a special 2-for-1 Gemini (the sign of the twins) rate.

As part of its celebration to introduce the Dawn Princess, the twin ship of its highly-successful Sun Princess, the cruise line has introduced this special rate for bookings made during the astrological sign of Gemini -- between May 22 and June 21, 1997 -- for Caribbean cruises on either the Sun or Dawn Princess from this October through April 1998.

The new Dawn Princess and her sister Sun Princess both offer seven-day Caribbean cruises. Dawn Princess sails from San Juan on alternating seven-day sailings featuring a "Classic Southern" itinerary including calls at Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, St. Maarten and St. Thomas; and a "Southern Explorer" itinerary calling at Aruba, Caracas, Grenada, Dominica and St. Thomas. Sun Princess offers a western Caribbean itinerary roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale with calls at Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Princess Cays, the line's private island.

Cruise-only rates begin at $699 per person (port charges and government fees are additional) for the Gemini special, and are subject to space availability and capacity control. Some black-out dates will apply and certain categories are excluded from this promotion.

The twins must travel together, but the offer will also apply if they choose to travel in separate cabins. Proof of "twinship" will be required before this special discount can be applied.

"What better way to welcome our new Dawn Princess than to celebrate its 'twinship' by extending a special cruise fare to identical twins," said Rick James, Princess Cruises' senior vice president of sales and corporate relations.

A Grand Class Apart

Dawn Princess is the second ship introduced as part of the company's $1.6 billion Grand Class expansion. At 77,000 tons Dawn Princess and Sun Princess are two of the largest ships afloat but carry far fewer passengers -- 1,950 -- than other ships of similar size. The ships' unique design combines large-ship choice with small-ship intimacy through cleverly-designed public rooms and passenger flow to offer passengers the luxury of spaciousness, along with unparalleled choices of dining, entertainment and accommodations. The two ships also offer the largest number of cabins with private balconies -- over 800 between them.
