Business Wire, May 21, 1997

LIVINGSTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1997--Milestone Scientific Inc. (NASDAQ: WAND) announced today that the University of Southern California School of Dentistry proposes to use Milestone's new Wand computer automated "painless" injection system and offers to perform ongoing clinical research on future dental products produced by the company.

The University of Southern California is currently performing clinical research on the new Wand technology.

In making the proposal, Howard M. Landesman, DDS, MEd and dean of the USC School of Dentistry said of The Wand: "My initial observations of the product are very positive and lead me to believe that the injection device could revolutionize the way in which local anesthetic is administered both in dentistry and medicine. Though more human subjects research is still needed to prove product efficacy," said Landesman. "I would like the USC School of Dentistry to be the first school in the nation to use The Wand."

Separately, Landesman proposed an ongoing research relationship focused on new Milestone products: "Our team of researchers are willing and able to undertake projects involving laboratory and clinical research on dental products you develop. For any product beyond the scope of dentistry," he continued, "we have the capacity to collaborate with researchers at the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing."

"USC's interest in The Wand at this early stage is of enormous significance to us as we approach the product launch later this year," said Leonard A. Osser, president and CEO of Milestone Scientific. "We, of course, will continue to utilize the University's research resources as we bring new products to market in the years just ahead."

Milestone focuses on the development, manufacture and marketing of leading-edge proprietary or patent protected medical and dental equipment and disposable products for use in the healthcare field.
