New HP LaserJet Printers Offer Internet Solutions for Small Businesses

Business Wire, May 27, 1997

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1997 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it will bundle Internet software solutions designed for small businesses with its HP LaserJet 6L printers and new versions of the HP LaserJet 6P and HP LaserJet 5 printers. These software solutions will allow businesses to access the Internet more easily for browsing, bookmarks, publishing and custom news searches.

INTERNET PRINTING

A 1996 HP survey underscored the importance of the Internet to small-business users. It showed that more than 60 percent of online activities involve accessing e-mail and product literature, and researching information. Ninety-eight percent of all users print from the Internet, and more than 60 percent of this information is text-based, according to an HP 1996 America Online survey.

"HP LaserJet printers are known for reliability and crisp text quality -- important features when printing from the Internet," said Chris Privon, marketing manager at HP's Personal Laser Division. "HP is a leader in Internet printing and works closely with Internet software and content providers to set standards for Internet printing. New HP software bundles can connect you to the Internet, direct you to time-saving tips, provide you with powerful information tools and allow you to print information easily and quickly."

BUNDLED SOFTWARE

The HP LaserJet Internet Publishing Kit will be bundled with the HP LaserJet 6Lse, 6Pse and 5se printers in U.S. retail channels. The kit includes the following: Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer; Microsoft Network (MSN), enabling users to explore the Internet free for two months; Microsoft Publisher 97 Trial Version free for 60 days, enabling users to create and edit their own Web pages; and Microsoft Internet Assistants, enabling users to convert documents easily to HTML format for publication on the Web.

The kit also includes pointers to HP's Web page at http://www.hp.com/go/print, for useful Internet printing tips and information on what HP is doing to set the standard for excellent Internet printing.

U.S. PRICES AND AVAILABILITY

The LaserJet 6Lse, 6Pse and 5se printers are expected to sell for $399, $799 and $1,299 (U.S.), respectively.

The HP LaserJet 6Lxi and 6Pxi printers in the U.S. reseller channel also will include the HP LaserJet Internet Custom News Kit. This kit brings Internet tools and business news to users by providing 30 free days of AT&T's WorldNet Service for Internet connectivity and Netscape Navigator for browsing and helpful corporate bookmarks. Businesses can create their own custom news pages with the PointCast Network software provided. The HP LaserJet 6Lxi and 6Pxi printers are expected to sell for about $399 and $799, respectively.
