BE Semiconductor Industries Announces New Board Member and Board Chairman

ZEVENAAR, The Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1997--BE Semiconductor Industries N.V. (Nasdaq: BESIF; Amsterdam Stock Exchange: BESI; Frankfurt Stock Exchange: BSI), today announced changes to the Supervisory Board approved at the Company's Annual Meeting held on May 14, 1997.
Shareholders approved the appointment of Maximillian C. Bernau, 30, as a new Supervisory Board Member. Maximillian Bernau will replace the retiring Chairman, Dr. Manfred R. Bernau, 70, a member of the Board since November 1995. In a separate meeting on May 14, 1997, the Board elected Dr. Reinhold C. Heibel, 48, as its Chairman.

Dr. Heibel joined the Supervisory Board of BE Semiconductor in April 1996. He has also been a member of the Management Board of Berliner Elektro Holding A.G. since January of 1996 and was appointed its Chairman in April 1997. Before joining Berliner Elektro, Dr. Heibel served as Director of the Investment Banking Division of Deutsche Bank AG, from August 1991 to December 1995. Previously, he served as a member of the Board of Management of Gesellschaft fur Industrieinteressen und Investitionen, an investment firm, from January 1985 until July 1991.
Maximillian Bernau studied law at the University of Berlin and Munich and currently maintains his own law practice.
BE Semiconductor Industries N.V. designs, develops, manufactures, markets and services molding, trim and form and selective plating and tin-lead plating systems for the semiconductor industry's `back-end' assembly operations and provides leadframes and connector plating services to customers. The Company's customers consist primarily of leading US, European, Asian, Korean and Japanese semiconductor manufacturers and subcontractors.
