New PC security system fights hacker attacks; So. Calif. firm introduces PC Data Encryption Coprocessor to protect against information theft, loss

Business Wire, May 5, 1997

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif.,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1997--Every day thousands of business and commercial organizations send private e-mail between offices on the Internet, leaving themselves open to dangerous attacks.

Despite the use of secret passwords, private information flowing through the Internet can still be read or even stolen by hackers and network operators.

Hackers have ready access to sophisticated software which allows them to look at and capture information on networks, including password directories. They simply pick which password to use and what information to steal, leaving the organization defenseless against unauthorized invasion.

That is why Productivity Enhancement Products Inc. (PEP), an engineering and product development firm in Laguna Hills, Monday introduced a new PC Data Encryption Card.

Shipping today, PEP's PC Data Encryption Card is the first security device to offer Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm technology as hardware.

PEP's DES card operates at speeds up to 117mbits/sec and is capable of supporting up to two, 44mbit/sec data lines. Because of its speed, the card also allows real-time encryption of hard disk drive data. As with network protection, Triple DES encryption drastically reduces the possibility of decryption by foreign parties, protecting information stored on disks and PC hard drives.

DES card is a 5-volt, 32-bit, 33MHz, short PCI bus card which converts a raw data stream into an encrypted data stream and vice versa. Compliant with PCI Bus specification 2.1, all data is transferred through the PCI Bus to the card.

The device contains no connections other than the gold fingers for the PCI Bus. The data stream can be transferred to and from any device, which resides in the PCI memory space, including system memory, communications cards or disk controllers.

Available in a Single and Triple DES version, the product is designed for system integrators and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) who develop applications that require high-speed data encryption card capability.

The card is ideal for intranet/Internet routers and switches, security servers, bridges, banking terminals, and fast support to multiple T3 links in real-time. It is intended for OEM customers and resellers who plan to integrate the product into their own system with their own software.

For reseller and OEM orders and pricing information call PEP's order line at 800/451-3475. Headquarters are at 26072 Merit Circle, Ste. 110, Laguna Hills, Calif., 92653, Phone is 714/348-1011. Home page: http://www.pepinc.com . E-mail: danb@pepinc.com .
