Business Wire, May 5, 1997

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BW HealthWire)--May 5, 1997--

Patented hair test for drugs of abuse to be in 1425 CVS retail

drug stores nation-wide

Psychemedics Corporation (American Stock Exchange:PMD) said today that CVS is in the process of rolling out the Psychmedics personal drug testing service called "PDT-90," at all 1425 of their stores nation-wide. This patented drug testing method, which uses a hair sample instead of urine and can detect drug usage for a 90 day period, is currently in use by over 750 corporations including many in the Fortune 500, as well as large metropolitan police departments and five Federal Reserve Banks.

Raymond C. Kubacki, president and CEO said, "We are very pleased that CVS has chosen to offer our PDT-90 drug testing service to their customers. While we encourage parents to communicate with their children regarding the dangers of drug abuse, the PDT-90 drug testing service gives parents a confidential, in-home collection tool with which to monitor their childs' adherence to a family `drug free' policy. We believe that parents have the right to know whether or not their child is at risk. We have performed over 1,000,000 drug tests using our patented technology and believe that we have the best method available for parents interested in maintaining a drug free home."

Kubacki continued, "Our goal is to make our PDT-90 drug testing service available to parents in every neighborhood in America. Parents have told us that having PDT-90 in the house is a deterrent in that it gives their child the needed excuse to overcome peer pressure to engage in using drugs."
