Business Wire, May 7, 1997
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 1997--Cary Brokaw, president and chief executive officer of Avenue Entertainment Group Inc. (OTC/BB:FLIK), announced that J.J. Jamieson has been named president of Avenue Pictures Television.
For the past four years, Jamieson has been at NBC as director of miniseries and motion pictures for television.
Jamieson's appointment coincides with an overall expansion of the Avenue Entertainment Group, in television movies, series and reality shows and specials.
``Avenue Television has now firmly established itself as a supplier of TV movies,'' said Brokaw. ``J.J. will help increase the volume of quality television product at Avenue, with an additional focus on miniseries and event television.''
Jamieson will also work closely with Avenue's Wombat Division, which creates programming for A&E, Lifetime and PBS. Wombat has been especially active in the production of motion-picture star profiles.
``J.J. brings tremendous intelligence, energy and creativity to the task of producing quality long-form television,'' said Brokaw. ``As an experienced and successful programmer, he truly understands the essential relationship between programming and its audience.''
At NBC, Jamieson oversaw the development and production of dozens of made-for-television movies and miniseries, at the most successful movie department in TV. Jamieson oversaw NBC's highest- rated miniseries of 1994-1995, ``The Judds,'' as well as the award- winning ``World War II: When Lions Roared,'' starring Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins and John Lithgow.
He also helped bring to NBC Peter Benchley's ``The Beast,'' which became the highest-rated miniseries in eight years.
Recently, Jamieson supervised the highly praised adaptation of Shirley Jackson's classic short story ``The Lottery,'' as well as ``She Cried No,'' the critically acclaimed drama of date rape on a college campus. ``The Lottery'' and ``She Cried No'' remain respectively NBC's highest-rated Sunday and Monday movies this season to date.
Jamieson also oversaw ``Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald,'' starring Helena Bonham Carter and Frank Whaley; the Christopher Award-winning ``If Someone Had Known,'' starring Kelly Martin; and the controversial ``Love's Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murder.''
His various other projects included: two spokes of the Friday Mystery Wheel, the Disney Movie Franchise and a highly rated ``Gambler'' miniseries, plus thrillers, dramas and science fiction. Jamieson also generated a number of original projects, including ``Sweet Dreams,'' ``Night Visitors'' and ``Friends Till the End,'' all of which aired this season.
Avenue Pictures Television is a division of Avenue Entertainment Group, a well-respected feature, television and documentary company.
Avenue Pictures Television has already produced a number of high- quality films, including the acclaimed ``Amelia Earhart: The Final Flight,'' starring Diane Keaton; the highly rated ``See Jane Run,'' based on the novel by Joy Fielding and starring Joanna Kerns; and ``Two Mothers for Zachary,'' starring Valerie Bertinelli and Vanessa Redgrave.
