Merchandising/Marketing Executive Hired

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1997--The Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack (NYSE:PBY), the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, announced the hiring of J. Michael Riggan as senior vice president -- merchandising.
Riggan will be responsible for merchandising, marketing and advertising.
Riggan, age 48, served as executive vice president -- marketing & merchandising for PetCare Plus Inc., the 81-store chain that was recently acquired by Petco. Prior to joining PetCare Plus in 1990, Riggan spent three years as vice president at Western Auto where his responsibilities included marketing, advertising, sales promotion and business development.
From 1980-1986, Riggan served as general merchandise manager at Auto Shack (now AutoZone) where his responsibilities included merchandising, advertising, market research, store display and special order.
Pep Boys' CEO, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comment:
