REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1997--
--With Partner iDREAM Software, New Technology Allows Consumers to
Perform "Virtual Home Trials" for Furniture and
Accessories on the Web--
International specialty retailer Eddie Bauer and iDream(TM) Software today announced the formation of an innovative, dual-industry relationship that links iDream's interactive three-dimensional (3D) design software to the Eddie Bauer e-commerce Web site.
The Eddie Bauer-iDream collaboration is a revolutionary step in e-commerce and combines the iDream Realism(TM)3D software application with Eddie Bauer's HOME merchandise and e-commerce Web site (www.eddiebauer.com). iDream's 3D software allows consumers to quickly model office or home environments by placing 3D models of Eddie Bauer merchandise within a virtual room, and then place orders online. With the ease of moving a mouse, users can position a bed, chair or lamp within the 3D space, and see it accurately scaled and rendered.
Users can then experiment with an assortment of 3D Eddie Bauer HOME furniture and accessory colors, styles and textures by selecting options from within the Realism3D software. Realism3D also features detailed Eddie Bauer HOME merchandise information, plus a direct link to make online purchases of Eddie Bauer HOME merchandise from www.eddiebauer.com . This link is made without having to exit the software program.
"iDream's progressive 3D application efforts offered Eddie Bauer an intuitive link between our Web investment and our online customers' desire to try before they buy," said Judy Neuman, Eddie Bauer's Interactive Media divisional vice president.
The 3D software design advances are made possible by programming innovations from iDream. This e-commerce initiative builds upon Eddie Bauer's goal to offer consumers convenient purchasing venues including catalog, retail, and the Web.
Eddie Bauer entered into the partnership with iDream as an important vehicle for selling its brand and strengthening the relationship with its customers. The high-tech partnership provides Eddie Bauer customers with convenient, interactive and creative ways to purchase Eddie Bauer products online.
"Eddie Bauer's successful track record of strategic partnering with quality organizations (e.g., The Ford Motor Co. and The Lane Co.) encouraged us to explore opportunities within the high-tech industry to extend our existing investment in the Web," said Neuman. "We are committed to implementing creative solutions which enhance the Eddie Bauer shopping experience."
"Eddie Bauer and iDream are working to deliver the functionality users expect on the Web," says Steve Petrucci, president of iDream. "The addition of realistic 3D to the online shopping experience is an absolute natural."
iDream, dedicated to the development of mass-market 3D business and consumer applications based on innovative technologies will include a catalog of Eddie Bauer HOME products within its Realism3D software. The Realism3D application allows computer users of all levels to create and visualize 3D designs and presentations with drag and drop ease.
