Business Wire, Nov 17, 1997

LANCASTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--Medical Technology & Innovations Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MTEN) announced Monday their participation in a statewide outreach program of the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital to save the sight of Tennessee's children through early detection of vision disorders.

It is estimated that approximately three percent of the 1.5 million children in Tennessee have serious eye problems. Until now, no structured program existed to discover many of these problems early enough to offer remedial treatment.

A recent survey at the Tennessee School for the Blind indicated that more than one half of the legally blind students there could have avoided a lifetime of visual impairment or blindness had their disease been diagnosed and treatment provided early in their childhood.

With the help of the MTI PhotoScreener(TM) and the development of the outreach program in Tennessee it is now possible to rapidly identify and refer for treatment such children at risk. This ambitious project will travel throughout the state of Tennessee, including rural and distant communities with the goal of screening approximately 10,000 children ages 6 months to 4 years in the next 12 months.

Lions Clubs of Tennessee who raised $4 million to establish the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, home of the outreach program, funds the program through a statewide campaign.

"No where in the world has such a task been undertaken. The implications of this project are quite clear," said COO Robert D. Brennan, and president of Medical Technology & Innovations Inc. "The children of Tennessee will, of course, benefit from this endeavor, but this could well be the model for saving the sight of thousands and thousands of children worldwide."

Denis M. O'Day, M.D., chair, Vanderbilt Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, stated, "Many of us take our vision for granted, but for too many of Tennessee's children, vision defects stand between them and a full, productive life. All of these children could reach their full potential if the resources were available to identify them and provide them with proper cTI has received an initial order of MTI PhotoScreeners and film for the Tennessee Lions Eye Center for their first volunteer training session which took place on Sept often fail to detect serious eye problems. rvention is the key to catching disorders beforent often go on to enjoy a lifetime of good vichnology & Innovations Inc. is the parent compan("lazy eye") and other eye disorders in infant88

The SAT is responsible for the legal processes of tax collections within Mexico, as part of the Mexican government department called the Administraciun General JuriEdica de Ingresos (AGJI).

The SAT needed a workflow solution, compatible with its newly implemented Microsoft Exchange platform, that would manage all department data in an efficient manner. Before Keyflow, the data was gathered by collecting and carrying it from person to person. This process was inefficient, often resulting in delays in the data entry or sometimes not getting the data entered at all. The government saw Keyfile s Keyflow for Microsoft Exchange Server as the answer to streamlining its processes, increasing productivity, saving money and improving overall quality and customer satisfaction.

"This use of the Keyflow solution exemplifies how messaging-based workflow is being implemented in a wider variety of industries to handle mission-critical informattributed and comprehensive workflow solution." Exchange Server, the SAT is able to implement aeir status.

"With Microsoft Exchange Server and Keyfile's Keyflow, customers get a high performance workflow solution allowing business operations to perform more efficiently," said Dave Malcolm, group product manager for Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Corp. "As the customer base for Microsoft Exchange continues to grow, we are excited to have products like Keyflow enhancing the functionality of Microsoft Exchange."

"Keyflow is an advanced workflow application that can be easily customized to meet the growing data and process management needs of large organizations," Sullivan said. "Keyflow's functionality reaches beyond the small group workflow solutions and into large enterprise applications."

The Mexican government's use of Keyflow is a clear example of how an off-the-shelf, line-of-business workflow solution can be implemented by a large organization with very specific needs. "Keyflow, when used with Microsoft Exchange, offers a high functionality, high performance collaborative workflow application. By choosing Keyflow, the government was able to create its own workflow process without using scripting agents or programming languages," Sullivan concluded.
