Transend Releases Upgrade to cc:Mail Service Bundled with Microsoft Outlook 97; ConnectorWare 2.0 Offers Many Enhanced cc:Mail Capabilities
Business Wire, Nov 24, 1997
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 24, 1997--Transend(R) Corporation today announced the immediate availability of ConnectorWare(TM) 2.0 for cc:Mail, a major upgrade to the Microsoft(R) Outlook(TM) Support for Lotus cc:Mail bundled with Office 97(R) and Outlook.
ConnectorWare for cc:Mail is a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) service provider that enables the Outlook client to access a cc:Mail post office. Transend's version 2.0 upgrade offers significant enhancements, improved performance and simplified installation with cc:Mail DB6 and DB8 (Rel. 6, 7, & 8) post offices.

Transend's ConnectorWare was originally released in October 1995 to provide access to cc:Mail using Microsoft's MAPI e-mail clients for Windows(R) 95 and NT. Since November 1996, the software has been bundled with Office 97 for use with Microsoft's Outlook client. ConnectorWare enables the Outlook client, or other MAPI-compatible clients, to send and receive mail through cc:Mail, browse and use the cc:Mail directory, and import stored messages from cc:Mail.
The Transend software also enables the use of many Outlook advanced features with cc:Mail, such as calendars, scheduling, meeting requests, etc. Outlook also offers many other features not available in the cc:Mail client, such as support of OLE 2.0 (Object Linking and Embedding) and is a Windows 95/NT application -- with the latest look and feel and seamless integration with other Windows 95/NT-based applications.
ConnectorWare 2.0 for cc:Mail provides significant enhancements, such as improved support of cc:Mail bulletin boards, full support of fax and Macintosh attachments, support of attachments with long file names, improved support for distribution list mailings, improved support of messages received through Internet gateways, and the ability to automatically support both cc:Mail DB6 and DB8 post offices.
"If a user's cc:Mail post office is upgraded from DB6 to DB8, ConnectorWare 2.0 automatically adjusts without any changes," said Fred Krefetz, president of Transend Corporation.
A key feature of ConnectorWare is the ability to import messages from cc:Mail folders and bulletin boards into Outlook folders. Version 2.0 incorporates significant enhancements to this facility. Once imported, messages become fully Outlook-compliant and can be replied to, forwarded, moved to other Outlook folders, archived, etc.
"Many organizations use ConnectorWare's import capability to facilitate the migration of users from cc:Mail to Microsoft's Exchange server," said Krefetz.
Transend ConnectorWare for cc:Mail also allows developers of messaging-enabled applications to write cc:Mail-based applications using MAPI rather than the VIM (Vendor Independent Messaging) API. ConnectorWare maps MAPI calls to VIM, allowing developers to focus on just one API.
Transend's cc:Mail ConnectorWare 2.0 is now available directly from Transend at http://www.transend.com/ConnectorWare/ . Licensed users --including Microsoft Outlook users -- can purchase the upgrade for as low as $9 per user. First time licenses can be purchased for as low as $19 per user. Reduced upgrade pricing is available until Feb. 1, 1998.
