The Computer Systems Division (CSD) of Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS), the company that continually redefines mobile computing, Monday added more power and functionality to its Libretto mini-notebook PC. The ideal desktop companion for mobile communications and information management, the 1.87-pound Libretto 70CT offers enhanced new features and increased performance.

Continuing to push the envelope on technological innovation, Toshiba equipped the new Libretto 70CT with even more computing power and storage in the smallest and lightest full-function notebook computer available. The Libretto 70CT offers the new 120MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology developed through Toshiba's long held strategic partnership with Intel.

"With the introduction of the powerful Libretto 70CT, Toshiba builds on the success of the mini-notebook computing category," said Stephen Nachtsheim, corporate vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobile and Handheld Products Group. "We worked closely with Toshiba to develop the low-power 120MHz mobile Pentium processor with MMX technology specifically for the growing mini-notebook market."

The Libretto 70CT represents the perfect balance of portability and functionality -- small enough to fit in the hand, yet powerful enough to run standard office applications. Equipped with a full-function Windows 95 operating system, the slim and lightweight Libretto 70CT allows users to run the same business applications they have at the office. Additionally, this compatibility makes the IS manager's life easy, eliminating worries over supporting specialized software and lowering support costs. For customers who travel extensively and need an effortless solution for giving presentations, the Libretto 70CT offers a crisp 6.1-inch active matrix display and the ability to connect to an external monitor.

"The Libretto is my productivity tool of choice, whether I'm in the office or on the road," said Steve Zarate, CIO, PeopleSoft. "In addition to being incredibly easy to carry, it's powerful enough to run multiple applications. During a recent speaking engagement, I connected the Libretto to an ISDN line and easily toggled back and forth between the PeopleSoft Web site, Lotus Notes and a PowerPoint presentation."

With its impressive computing capabilities, the Libretto 70CT's generous 1.6 billion byte (=1.51GB) hard drive provides enough storage to run demanding applications and manage numerous documents. Equipped with 16MB of high-speed EDO DRAM, the Libretto 70CT easily accommodates E-mail, spreadsheets and information management applications.

Customers can increase their battery life by 20 percent for up to two hours of computing time by enabling the power management features embedded in the Libretto 70CT's main chipset. Powered by a Lithium Ion battery, the Libretto also offers an optional high capacity battery pack that extends the battery life up to four hours.

Equipped with strong expansion capabilities, the Libretto 70CT offers one Type II PC Card slot and a standard port expander that includes serial, ECP parallel and video interfaces. The Libretto's IrDA-compatible serial infrared port allows quick wireless access to printers and easy file transfers. An external diskette drive provides customers with convenient storage and data transfer.

Libretto Options

The Libretto 70CT offers an optional Enhanced Port Replicator for additional connectivity to peripherals with one Type III PC Card and a host of ports including PS/2 mouse and keyboard, ECP parallel, high-speed serial and video. By leaving the port replicator hooked to the primary PC, Libretto customers have a quick and easy solution for file synchronization. An optional Noteworthy 33.6Kbps v.34 voice/data/fax PC Card modem keeps customers in touch by E-mail, fax and the Internet.

Availability and Pricing

The Libretto 70CT will be available in December through Toshiba's traditional distribution channels including VARs, distributors, dealers and select retail outlets at an estimated single unit price of $1,999.
