OPTi's Signs Multimedia Software License Agreement With InVision Interactive; Cybersound MIDI Music Synthesizer Bundled With OPTi Audio Chips

Business Wire, Nov 5, 1997

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1997--OPTi, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPTI) announced today that it has reached an agreement with InVision Interactive to provide their CyberSound(R) GM software synthesizer with OPTi's audio chips.

With this combined offering, the OEM systems designer has a new audio architecture that is less expensive and more flexible than hardware-only PC audio solutions, and it can be implemented without motherboard design changes.

CyberSound GM is a programmable General MIDI synthesizer implemented in software for Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 95 operating systems used on Pentium PCs and fully optimized for Intel's new MMX architecture. It offers all the functionality of a stand-alone General MIDI module or sound card and reduces hardware complexity and audio solution cost to a minimum.

"This agreement allows OPTi to bundle wavetable synthesizer software that dramatically enhances sound in personal computers," said Patrick Ang, OPTi's president of OPTi's multimedia division. "Our customers now have access to entertainment-quality sound on the PC."

"This partnership with OPTi brings more exposure to CyberSound and opens up new market opportunities for us," said Mitchell Tuchman, InVision's chief operating officer.

CyberSound minimizes host CPU utilization with a Dynamic Buffering scheme to buffer on the necessary instrument sounds into RAM. In addition, CyberSound GM employs Intelligent Scaling to reduce CPU load while running other memory- and CPU-intensive applications, and is optimized for Intel's MMX Pentium(R) Processors.

CyberSound features include fully extensible, professional quality software synthesizer capable of 128 voice polyphony, full high quality General MIDI sound set, programmable effects control of reverb and chorus, and supports downloadable samples to extend instrument options beyond General MIDI.
