Hitachi Data Systems Announces Additional Features for Pilot Series Mainframes

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1997--Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) today announced new features and functions for the latest generation of its CMOS-based HDS Pilot Series(TM) mainframe computers.

In addition to Application Preservation in basic, or non-MLPF, mode, and Dynamic SP Standby, both of which are already supported on the Pilot P7 models, the following features will be available on P7 models in 1Q98:

15 LPARs (with a single IOCDS)

Application Preservation for MLPF

Application Preservation for LPARs running under MLPF

Dynamic Coupling Facility Dispatching (Pilot PS and P7 models)

Enhanced Dynamic Storage Reconfiguration

Internal Coupling Facility.

The HDS Pilot Series, first announced in April 1996, today includes 32 models for optimized performance granularity. Together with HDS' complementary Skyline Series(TM), the fastest commercial mainframes in the world, HDS offers a total of 52 mainframe models.
