Bennett Environmental: Appointment of Pierre Meunier to the Board of Directors

Business Wire, Oct 14, 1997

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 1997-- Bennett Environmenta(ME BEV.) Bennett Environmental Inc., (BEI), is pleased to announce that Mr. Pierre Meunier has joined the company's Board of Directors. Mr. Meunier, who holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Montreal, is a Senior Partner and Chairman of the Environmental Law Practice Group at the Montreal law firm, Martineau Walker.

Mr. Meunier is a former Province of Quebec Deputy Minister of Environment and a former Province of Quebec Deputy Minister of Housing and Consumer Protection and most recently, was the President of Group Scriptec. Mr. Meunier is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Biosphere Partners Foundation of Montreal, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the EnviroCapital Investment fund. Mr. Meunier is also a member of the Canadian, American and International Bar Associations. Mr. Meunier's nomination is subject to Montreal Exchange approval.

Bennett Environmental Inc. is engaged in the operation, development and manufacture of thermal treatment technology and equipment for the remediation of waste hydrocarbons. The Company holds the only high temperature thermal waste remediation permits for treatment of contaminated soils in Quebec and British Columbia.

As previously reported, the company has requested formal approval of its permit upgrade, to accept certain special wastes from the Quebec Ministry of Environment and Fauna (MOE). Test burn results for its facility at Recupere Sol Inc., confirm that the performance of the BEI thermal oxidizing equipment exceeds both the MOE's and the North American requirements for this waste. The issuance of the permit would allow the company to compete for the business of remediating the large amount of special waste that requires treatment. Such waste commands a higher processing fee than the hydrocarbon contaminated material that the plant is currently permitted to accept.

Issuance of the permit would put the Company in a position to secure the contracts cited in earlier news releases and perform the work called for therein.

Bennett Environmental Inc., is listed on the Montreal Exchange (BEV). For further information, please visit the BEI web site at: http://www.bennettenvironmental.com, or contact Mr. John Bennett, or Mr. Feisal Dedhar at (604) 681-8828.
