Two More TRW Sites Recommended for ISO 9001 Registration

Business Wire, Oct 20, 1997

REDONDO BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1997--TRW (NYSE:TRW) facilities in Redondo Beach and Dominguez Hills have been recommended for registration by the British Standards Institution (BSI) as being compliant with ISO 9001 international standards in an audit completed Sept. 24.

"ISO registration validates our existing policies and practices and provides a base for continuous excellent performance through repeatable, predictable processes," said Kurt Simon, vice president and general manager for TRW Data Technologies Division, Redondo Beach. "This seal of approval will strengthen TRW's position not only with U.S. customers, but also in bidding on international projects that have ISO 9001 requirements," he added.

TRW is one of many U.S. companies voluntarily pursuing ISO 9001 registration which certifies that an organization meets quality standards for the conduct of business set by the International Organization for Standardization, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The standards require that every business function affecting quality be planned, controlled, and documented. This quality assessment also provides assurance to customers that the output of an organization's processes will meet customer expectations and requirements.

Five months ago other TRW facilities in Redondo Beach, San Clemente and Chantilly, Va. achieved ISO registration. Several other TRW sites plan to pursue registration in 1998. To maintain registration, the TRW sites will undergo audits twice a year by BSI, an independent agency authorized to certify U.S. companies as ISO-compliant.

TRW Inc. provides advanced technology products and services to the automotive and space and defense markets worldwide. The company's sales in 1996 were approximately $10 billion.
