Forbes Medi-Tech: Progress with Food Manufacturer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1997-- Forbes Medi-Tech Inc. (VSE:FMI. ) Forbes Medi-Tech Inc. (VSE:FMI) (the "Company") is pleased to announce that pursuant to the Letter Agreement signed with a major food manufacturer ("Manufacturer") as reported in the company's news release of March 18, the company presented the results of its "Food/Phytrol" trial on September 11 to the Manufacturer for evaluation and interest.
The company is pleased to report that the Management of the Manufacturer has found the results of the trial favorable and of interest and has notified the company that it wishes to proceed to negotiate an appropriate licensing Agreement with the Company.
Forbes Medi-Tech Inc. is a bio-technology company dedicated to research, development and commercialization of valuable pharmaceuticals derived from forest industry by-products. Forbes is devoting its efforts to researching forest-derived plant sterols for use as cholesterol lowering agents as well as the production and commercialization of Androstenedione, a key material used in the manufacture of various pharmaceutical steroid drugs and other "higher value" steroid products.
