Business Wire, Oct 27, 1997
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1997--Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND) today announced that EarthLink Network, Inc. (NASDAQ:ELNK), the world's largest independent retail Internet service provider (ISP), is adding 5,000 additional dial ports in southern California to serve the company's expanding member base. The recent purchase of Ascend MAX WAN access switches significantly adds to EarthLink's existing port capacity. EarthLink recently won PC Magazine's Editors' Choice award for Best Internet Service Provider, amongst a field of 13 ISPs and online services. The company says that offering its members superior levels of service was one of the reasons they won the prestigious PC Magazine award.
"Our strategy has been to deliver superior service to our members and the Ascend equipment is one major reason that our members don't experience the frustration of busy signals or poor performance when they're on our network," said Steve Dougherty, Director of Internet Operations for EarthLink.
"We were very excited that EarthLink has received this major industry recognition for its service," said Kurt Bauer, Ascend's vice president of access concentration management. "EarthLink has been using the MAX product since it was introduced, and we've learned a lot working with them. EarthLink has the highest standards for servicing their members, and it has made us a better vendor always working up to those standards."
