Trillium Digital Systems Inc. Announces Plans to Develop SS7 Software Solutions for Force Computers Hardware

Business Wire, Oct 7, 1997

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1997--Trillium Digital Systems Inc., a leading provider of communications software solutions, Tuesday announced its plans to develop integrated SS7 source code software solutions to run on Force Computers high- performance hardware platforms.

Using a single source for hardware and a single source for software, the Trillium-Force combination will provide a flexible and reliable platform for computer and communications equipment manufacturers to quickly develop applications for SS7 technologies, including new technologies in wireless and wireline infrastructures.

Trillium licenses its software as source code, which provides distinct advantages over binary solutions, including security of supply and the opportunity for customers to customize the software for their proprietary applications.

Trillium President and CEO Jeff Lawrence said: "Trillium and Force together provide a powerful combination for these integrated platforms. Capable of E1 and T1 bandwidths, this integration of Force hardware and Trillium software gives our customers another strong platform choice to help speed their time to market and anticipate applications for service platforms and other products."

Trillium is adding two new solutions to its current Integrated SS7 - Force VME Platform software. The new Trillium-Force integrated hardware and software solutions will run on Solaris and Windows NT operating systems. These Trillium integrated software solutions will be available in two phases next year.

In the first phase, Trillium will support both of Force's Pentura CompactPCI systems, the 4710 and 8710, running Microsoft's Windows NT operating system. Windows NT serves as the host platform for Trillium's Message Transfer Part Level 3 (MTP3) and higher SS7 protocol layers.

Trillium's protocol stack can run in either the user or kernel space of Windows NT. The board will communicate with an MFIO-150 or MFIO-110 board, which is a CompactPCI carrier board with two PMC860 Mezzanine cards. The PMC cards will run Trillium's MTP Level 2 (MTP2) and MTP Level 1 (MTP1) layers. The system will include protocol layers and the utilities for loading, configuration and communication between protocol layers.

In the second phase, Trillium will use Force's CPU-5V family of boards, which are single board computers running the Solaris operating system, and allow them to communicate with Force's PowerCore board. Solaris will serve as the host for Trillium's MTP3 and higher SS7 protocol layers, which will externally communicate with Force's PowerCore board running MTP2. On the PowerCore board, two PMC860 cards will host MTP1.

As with other Trillium integrated platform solutions, such as SS7, ATM and interworking, the Trillium software is licensed separately from the Force hardware. Trillium delivers its products in the C programming language and also provides documentation, training and support.

Trillium Digital Systems is a leading provider of communications software solutions for computer and communications equipment manufacturers.
