Who Wants Some Wang? GT Interactive Answers With New 'Shadow Warrior' For PC
Business Wire, Sept 11, 1997
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1997--
Controversial 3D Realms' Title Hits September 12
Just as the Shadow Warrior says, "You no mess with Lo Wang," so do 3D Realms and GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) as they again team up to bring a new highly anticipated game, Shadow Warrior, to PC players everywhere. Developed by 3D Realms, creators of the "politically incorrect" character, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior will be available at retailers nationwide tomorrow.
"3D Realms has once again developed a game that has the industry buzzing for its intense game play, innovative features, and brazen and bold tone," said Holly Newman, vice president of Marketing for GT Interactive. "As one of the top shareware downloads since its release in July, we think the full version of `Shadow Warrior' will keep online multiplayers `Wang-banging' for some time."
A multi-player action game whose over-the-top parody of its main character, Lo Wang, has been a topic of industry debate, in Shadow Warrior, players portray Lo Wang, a feared ninja assassin bent on revenge. Featuring innovative game play additions such as 3D vehicle support in which players can operate tanks, fork lifts and bulldozers to flatten opponents and solve puzzles, Shadow Warrior offers highly dynamic environments with true rooms-above-rooms 3D architecture; exploding walls; real-time reflective mirrors, and water with wave action.
Players also have access to a wide variety of traditional ninja weapons such as throwing stars and swords, as well as some unconventional items such as the head and hearts of the enemy - a twist on the guerrilla war doctrine of "winning over the hearts and minds" of your opponents.
"Shadow Warrior has stirred up controversy on the Internet as much as any game I've seen released," said George Broussard, head of 3D Realms. "It's the ultimate martial arts take-off game that does not pull a punch, from its ninja-style moves and endless chop-socky speech from Lo Wang, to amorous rabbits! Did I leave anything out?"
Designed for multiplayer use, Shadow Warrior allows up to eight players to play simultaneously via the Internet or local area network in what has become known as "Wang-banging." Other intense multiplayer modes include co-operative and team play, and Capture the Flag.
In addition, a patch for 3Dfx graphics accelerator cards will be made available free via download from http://www.shadowwarrior.com later in the month.
