Rolland Inc. Acquires a Participation in a Kraft Pulp Mill
Business Wire, Sept 11, 1997
SAINT-JEROME, QUEBEC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1997-- ROLLAND (ME, TSE RL. ) To secure its sources of virgin pulp, Rolland has decided to acquire a 32 percent participation in FjordCell inc., a company recently formed to operate a Kraft pulp mill next to the Cascades Jonquiere inc.'s boxboard mill. The reopening of this 70,000 metric tonnes per year pulp mill is scheduled for autumn 1998 following new investments of $40 M, including $25 M for environmental control.
Already with Desencrages Cascades, Rolland had secured its supply of deinked pulp and, now FjordCell, Rolland partly realizes an old wish which is its integration to a source of supply for softwood. Rolland's share being 22,500 metric tonnes per year, the Rolland's mills in Saint-Jerome and of its subsidiary, Provincial Papers in Thunder Bay, will be assured access to high-quality pulp.
