IBM Broadens its Aptiva Home PC Family to Bring Cutting-edge Technologies, Value, Quality and Reliability to the Consumer PC Marketplace
Business Wire, Sept 15, 1997
Unmatched Ease-of-Use Features
IBM Aptiva created a revolution in PC design when it introduced the S Series in 1996. With the new family of Aptiva home PCs, IBM continues to revolutionize the industry by introducing new features that make them even easier to use.
- Customizable IBM EZ Buttons Keyboard - The IBM EZ Buttons Keyboard features four customizable buttons that allow the user to designate the applications and files they access most often. In addition, the communications command center combines controls and indicator lights for both the audio CD player and phone messaging system that are integrated into the Aptiva L and S Series.
- IBM ScrollPoint Mouse - The new IBM ScrollPoint Mouse features a fingertip control stick invented by IBM Research scientists that is similar to the TrackPoint on the IBM ThinkPad. With the ScrollPoint Mouse's effortless 360 degree scrolling, consumers can easily move through long documents, surf the Web, fly across spreadsheets and many other Windows`95(TM) applications as never before by simply moving their finger.
- Access Aptiva - An exclusive new user environment, Access Aptiva is a unique computing interface that resides on the desktop and provides consumers instant access to all the information and tools needed to explore key features and help answer questions about the Aptiva. For easy navigation, Access Aptiva is divided into four categories: Welcome, Discover & Help, Look & Listen and Control.
All New Integrated Multimedia Monitors
In addition to the new Aptiva L and S Series systems, IBM has designed two new monitors that fit seamlessly with its new designs. The MM55 (15"(13.7" viewable image size)) and MM75 (17" (14.7" viewable image size)) multimedia monitors come equipped with integrated Bose speakers, a volume control knob, on-screen display controls, headphone and microphone jacks, USB ports on the side and a built-in microphone. Designed to enhance the multimedia experience of Aptiva users, the MM55 and MM75 feature high-resolution, .28 pitch, flicker-free screens for hours of interactive enjoyment. The MM55 and MM75 monitors are priced at $429 and $699 respectively.
