Business Objects Announces Support for Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5
Business Wire, Sept 16, 1997
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1997--Business Objects (NASDAQ:BOBJY), the world's leading provider of integrated enterprise decision support tools, today announced its support of Sybase, Inc.'s new Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 database server. Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 is an online transaction processing (OLTP) and decision support database optimized to deliver predictable high performance access to data in unpredictable, mixed-workload environments.
End users who use BusinessObjects to access Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 will now get the same quick response time for query, reporting, and analysis, whether the data is in a data warehouse or mart, or in an OLTP system. Business Objects offers both a full-client suite of DSS tools including BusinessObjects, BusinessMiner, and BusinessQuery, as well as its new thin-client solution, WebIntelligence.
"End users need easy and fast access to information, and they want to be able to do complex comparisons of information, for example, comparing forecast, actual, and budget information. But where the data 'lives' should be transparent to them," said Dave Kellogg, vice president of corporate marketing at Business Objects. "With BusinessObjects, end users don't need to know anything about where the data is located. They can get the information they need, when they need it. Our support for Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5, extends our position to enable end users to quickly get the information they need to make better business decisions."
Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5, the successor to Sybase SQL Server 11, is designed to provide organizations with predictable high-performance in unpredictable mixed workload OLTP and DSS environments. Product features include: -0-
-- Logical Memory Manager and Logical Process Manager for
application- and user-specific dedicated resources
-- Scalability for very large databases (VLDB) through parallel
operations for maximum utilization of system resources
-- Common services for management and administration, data
access/movement, security, and web access;
-- Support for specialty data stores including geo- spatial,
time series, multimedia/imaging, and text;
-- New Security features for internet transactions and
multi-tier applications.
Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 is the first new member of the Sybase Adaptive Server product family. Other Sybase Adaptive Server optimized databases, which will be introduced in coming months, include Adaptive Server Anywhere for mobile computing, and Adaptive Server IQ for building distributed data marts used in business decision making environments.
"Business Objects is a prime example of an organization whose customers require predictable performance regardless of the type or volume of transaction their IT systems are processing," said Terry Stepien, vice president of database marketing for Sybase, Inc. "Through enhanced logical process and memory management, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 11.5 is unique in its ability to provide increased performance for demanding decision support environments."
